Rutherford County Rent: On the Climb

The cost of rent in Rutherford County aligns with the overall trends for most of the counties in Middle Tennessee, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

From 2009-2013, most Rutherford County renters could expect to pay between $500 and $999 monthly.  Although that cost category continued to include the greatest number of renters between 2014 and 2018, the overall number of renters who paid within that cost range decreased by more than 14%.  The number of renters who paid between $1000 and $1499 remained stagnant with less than a 1% increase within the same time period.  However, the number of renters who paid between $1500 and $1999 increased over 113% over the 5-year period.

In Middle Tennessee, Davidson, Sumner, Williamson and Wilson Counties also realized significant decreases in their own renters who paid between $500 and $999.  However, while the number of renters in that cost range decreased across Middle Tennessee, the number of renters in higher cost categories increased, which accommodated for the decreases in the lower cost categories.

The bottom line?  Costs of rent continue to climb across the region; Rutherford County renters are no exception.
